5 Key Habits For a Successful Lifestyle Makeover
Do you wish to find the key habits for a successful lifestyle makeover?
Do you want to become the best version of yourself, but your dream seems too overwhelming or distant and you don’t know how to approach it?
Maybe you tell yourself: ” OK, I will start next Monday, next week, next month or after the holidays. However, those Mondays, week, months and numerous holidays are passing by, and you are still caught up in your vicious circle of bad habits most probably feeling low and unfulfilled.
Let me tell you that I know this feeling very well. I have been in this loop for years before I developed my lifestyle routine that changed my life in multiple areas.
I used to be a terrible procrastinator, and if there wasn’t any fixed deadline or fire on the roof, I used to find other activities (read excuses) to keep myself busy and postponing those unpleasant tasks ( finishing assignments, going to the gym, reading, limiting social media, sticking to my diet plan).
These are the five keys that helped me to successfully turn my dreams into reality
Preparation is the key to successful lifestyle.
We all have the same amount of time in a day. You are your own CEO so learn to manage your time well.
If I ask you what is important for you? The answer would be health and family, yet we don’t plan our time around these priorities.
Schedule an hour each Sunday to plan your Health & Wellbeing appointments with yourself and good quality time with your family.
Health is our biggest wealth, so treat these appointments with the same urgency as the meeting with your boss or school shows of your kids. You certainly wouldn’t cancel those meetings, would you?
Food is the fuel that determines your energy levels and productivity; hence, preparation of balanced meals is vital to successful lifestyle makeover.
Are you planning your weekly meals?
Do you keep track of what you eat and why?
In my weekend workshop, I teach simple food preparation techniques of delicious & nutritious meals ready in just 15 minutes (so that you avoid processed unhealthy food that drains your energy and mess up with your hormones) and easy & effective short exercise and meditation routine that you can do at home.
A clear vision is another key to successful lifestyle makeover.
Knowing your goals and most importantly, WHY & HOW you want to achieve them gives you the purpose and determination so that you get up in the morning energised and ready to rock.
Remember that it is crucial to set up achievable, sustainable and measurable goals with a clearly determined time frame.
During my studies, I was experimenting with different lifestyle habits and diets so that I know what mental, emotional and physical impact such changes might have on my clients.
That’s why I developed multidimensional programmes that focus on all aspects of human beings and how to overcome potential obstacles.
Here are examples of clear & specific goals :
For the next 30 days, I will eliminate coffee & sugar from my diet to rebalance hormones
The next two months, I will read daily for 15 minutes to broaden my knowledge and improve focus
For the next 7 days, I will walk 10 000 steps to improve my cardio
In the next 6 weeks, I will dedicate 5 non-negotiable hours to complete my studies
Every Sunday I will schedule 3 hours to low FODMAP (low fermentable carbohydrates that cause bloating) meal preparation for the week
“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.”
The key to successful lifestyle makeover is to avoid distractions and minimise the impact of emotions and feelings or appetite on your performance.
It might mean that you mute notifications on your social media or remove any junk food from your pantry.
We all know that motivation is not going to appear on our doorstep, and the initial enthusiasm fades away quite quickly. Self -discipline is a learned behaviour and only with daily practise and constant repetition; you can master it.
The action comes first motivation after.
If you have a clear vision of what would that feel like to achieve your goal, you are more likely to stay focused.
Create a vision board with all your goals, dreams, values & missions.
Read it daily to keep your focus and conscious decisions aligned with your internal commitment.
If I schedule a morning run and it is raining, my motivation is very low. I have to act fast, put the shoes on and just go otherwise, my brain will give me millions of reasons why I shouldn’t do it. Even if I don’t run the fastest at the end, I am proud of myself.
Implement the 5-second rule and see what happens.
Consistency is key to success because you are committed to putting your effort every single day in the direction of your goals.
Remember to take small steps and do not try to change everything at once; otherwise, you are preparing yourself to failure.
You wouldn’t run a marathon right away, would you?
If you want to include exercise into your daily routine start with 10 minutes of jogging or stretching and build into it consistently.
The same applies to nutrition.
Slowly incorporate clean eating principles into your routine.
Decrease portion size
Eliminate refined food
Include protein to every meal, and so on.
If you promised to yourself that you would exercise, read or go to sleep earlier.
Keep that promise!
5. Self- love
Self-love is often the hardest thing for us to practice.
Taming the inner critic might be initially a challenging task but with the practice of mindfulness exercises, meditation, positive affirmations, EFT or hypnotherapy you can learn how to replace the negative self-talk with positive & motivational statements.
If you set up a 30-day challenge to replace a bad habit, the chances are that at some point, you will stumble.
We all have ups & downs, and unexpected events make us reschedule or slip but don’t let the frustration, anger or guilt take over.
Be kind to yourself, refocus and move on.
The best part of using these essential habits is the reward system.
We all love to feel appreciated but rather than searching for the approval from others praise yourself.
If you believe in yourself, the opinions or criticism from others does not influence your performance and belief system.
Even a small achievement deserves a little reward, so make your wish-list super exciting.
If you have something to look forward, your motivation will be skyrocketing, and you will accomplish your task in no time.
However, do not reward yourself with food!
Food is fuel, not a reward!
I love going to the Wellness parks. Sauna, thermal bath and massage is the best reward for me and improves my sleep too.
